Impressed!
Felix Fasolt:
Guy Slabbinck mainly works with painting. His imagination and visual intelligence embrace exoticism, mythology, magic, spirituality, history of art, everyday life, romanticism and more. Metaphor and metamorphosis perpetually stand ready to aid in the transformative nature of his vast undertaking, which favors blurring a vast array of symbols and references so as to create suggestive vibrant narratives. His paintings never show the complete structure. This results in works that allow you to imagine an interpretation without being hindered by the historical reality. By examining the ambiguity and origination via retakes and variations, he uses a visual vocabulary that addresses many different social and political issues. The strong brushwork, precise figuration, and rich colors induce an immersive environment that is apt for interpretation. The work incorporates time as well as space – a fictional and experiential universe that only emerges bit by bit. There’s no more attractive pleasure than following one’s ideas wherever they lead.
